A little about me ...
I'm a Southern California oil painter seeking to capture light and form and the soul within what I see through my work
Lia was born in 1981 in Siberia. She is a creative of many passions, such as cooking, gardening, ice skating and DIY projects, but her biggest passion has always been art. One day her art teacher noted her gift at early age of five, noting her meticulous attention to detail on raven's feathers and form. He insisted she pursues her education in art. Her ability to capture likeness inspired her parents to give her the very best chance at realizing her gifts.
She attended Academy of Art university in early 2000s, where she received her education in Advertising and Design with a background in illustration and figure drawing. Along her journey, figure drawing professors admired her ability to capture value, form and likeness, and also insisted she continues her path in the direction of fine art.
After a long pause of raising a family and devoting all of her time to her other passions, she decided to come back to her true calling, art. She spent 9 years studying and analyzing her favorite artists and teaching herself all she could about oil painting. Within the last couple of years, she was able to put all her knowledge onto a canvas and create multiple paintings you see here, as she continues to advance her career in representational art as well as fine-tuning her own style.
Oil painting and its timeless place in history has inspired her to become self taught in it. Her works are influenced by the style of great oil painters of today like Jeremy Lipking, Vladimir Volegov, Daniel Keys, Anna Rose Bain, Richard Schmid and recently, Michael Obermeyer.
This year, her works have been published in her local literary magazine and reviewed for Artist membership by esteemed painters of California Art Club, President Emeritus Peter Adams and their current president, Michael Obermeyer, noting great composition and stunning technique.
"My paintings often contain hidden hearts as a natural part of the scene and if you look closely, sometimes you can find them. I also focus on symmetry and patterns in a composition, inviting the viewer on a path of their own discovery."
Today, Lia focuses on capturing the soul and the vision of what she sees through her seascapes and figures, as she continues her journey to self realization.
